Gutter repair

Gutter Repair in New Braunfels

Sagging sections, joints that have pulled apart, water getting behind the run, and downspouts putting water in the wrong place.

What a failing gutter looks like

The middle of a run dips lower than the ends. Water stands in it after the rain stops and you can see the line of grit where it dried. In a storm it overflows at the low point, always the same spot, and the ground underneath is scoured out.

Or there is a dark streak running down the fascia board behind the gutter, which means the water is going behind the run rather than into it. That one gets expensive quietly, because the wood is taking it.

Or a joint between two sections has pulled and drips steadily an hour after the rain has stopped.

Why gutters fail in the Hill Country

Three reasons, mostly. Weight, because a run packed with wet live oak leaves and grit is heavy enough to pull hangers out of the fascia over a few seasons. Age, because sectional gutter joints are sealed and sealant does not last forever in Texas sun. And pitch, because a run that was never sloped enough toward the downspout never drained properly to begin with.

What a gutter repair includes

We come look and tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing. Sometimes it is: a couple of failed hangers, a re-pitch, a re-seal at two joints, a downspout moved to a better spot. That is a short job and it costs a fraction of a replacement.

Sometimes it is not. If the run is a sectional gutter with joints letting go in several places, and the fascia behind it has started to go soft, patching it is throwing good money after bad. We will say that plainly rather than sell you a repair we know will fail again.

  • Re-hanging sagging runs on new hidden hangers
  • Re-pitching a run that never drained
  • Sealing joints and end caps
  • Re-securing and re-routing downspouts, and adding kickouts
  • Replacing individual sections that are beyond sealing
  • Fascia assessment before anything gets hung back on it

Checking the fascia behind the gutter

This is the part people are surprised by. The gutter is only as good as the board it is screwed to. If water has been getting behind the run for a couple of seasons, the fascia can be soft even though it looks fine from the ground. We check it before we quote, because hanging new gutter on rotten wood means doing the whole job twice.

If the board needs replacing before anything goes back up, we will tell you at the quote and sort out who does it, so there is no surprise on the morning.

Should you repair or replace your gutters?

A rough rule: if the run is one continuous piece and the problem is hangers, pitch or a downspout, repair it. If the run is sectional and the joints are going, replacing that run with one rolled piece usually costs less over the next ten years than repairing it twice.

We will give you both numbers and let you decide.

Where we repair gutters

Everywhere we install: New Braunfels, Seguin, Schertz, Cibolo, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch, Geronimo and Marion. The older houses around central Seguin are where we find the most soft fascia behind a tired run. If water has been landing at your slab for a while, read why water at your slab matters before you decide what to fix first.

Questions about gutter repair

How long does a gutter repair take?

Most repairs are a short job: a few failed hangers replaced, a run re-pitched, a couple of joints resealed or a downspout moved. The longer ones are where the fascia behind the gutter has gone soft and has to be sorted before anything goes back up. We tell you which kind you have at the quote.

What does gutter repair cost?

It depends on what has failed and how much of it. A few hangers and a re-pitch cost a fraction of a new run. Resealing several joints, replacing sections, or fascia work behind the gutter costs more. Height matters too, since a two-story repair takes longer. We look first and give you the number before we start.

Should I repair or replace my gutters?

Repair it if the run is one continuous piece and the problem is hangers, pitch or a downspout. Replace it if the run is sectional and the joints are letting go in several places, because one rolled piece usually costs less over the next ten years than repairing the old one twice. We quote both and you decide.

What about the trees over my gutters?

Under heavy canopy, trees are often part of why the gutter failed. A run packed with wet live oak leaves and grit is heavy enough to pull hangers out of the fascia over a few seasons. When we repair a run under trees, we tell you whether cleaning twice a year or a gutter guard is the better way to stop it happening again.
