Questions
Gutter questions we actually get asked
Straight answers, including the ones where we do not have the answer yet and have said so.
How much do new gutters cost?
It depends on how many linear feet you need, how many stories, how many downspouts, and whether the fascia needs work before anything gets hung on it. We give you the number after we have looked, and it does not move unless you change the job.
We would rather quote your roof than publish a per-foot figure that turns out to be wrong for it. More in gutter installation and our guide to what gutters cost in New Braunfels.
Do you charge to come out and quote?
No. We come look, measure the roof, check the pitch and the fascia, and tell you what it needs. If it does not need anything we will tell you that as well. See how the first visit fits into a gutter installation.
What is the difference between a rolled run and sectional gutter?
Sectional gutter comes in ten foot lengths that get joined together on site. Every joint is sealed, and sealant eventually fails in Texas sun, so every joint is a future drip and a place for leaves to catch.
A rolled run comes off the machine on the trailer in your driveway, cut to the exact length of your eave. There are no joints along the length at all. The only joins on the whole run are at corners and end caps. More on how we install.
Should I get five inch or six inch?
Six inch carries considerably more water and clogs less because the channel is wider. It is the right answer on long roof planes, on valleys that dump into one spot, and on metal roofs that shed fast.
Five inch is genuinely fine on a small simple roof, and if that is what you have we will say so rather than sell you the bigger one. The full comparison is in five inch versus six inch gutters, and sizing is part of every installation.
How long does an installation take?
Most single-storey houses are a day. Larger or two-storey homes can run into a second day. If the fascia needs repair first, that adds time and we will tell you before we start rather than on the morning. Step by step in what happens on install day, or see gutter installation.
What colors can I get?
There is a wide selection, so the gutter can either match your trim or quietly disappear against it. We bring the chart when we come to look, and you pick from the real thing rather than a screen. More on gutter installation.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Our workmanship is warranted and the material and finish carry the manufacturer's cover. We put the terms in writing with your quote, so you have them before you decide. More on gutter installation.
Who do I make payments to?
All payments are made to Right Hand Man LLC.
How often do gutters need cleaning around here?
If your roof sits under mature live oaks, twice a year is realistic. In the open, once is often plenty. The useful window is late in the year, after the cedar elms and pecans have dropped and before a hard freeze, with a spring visit after the live oaks shed if the canopy is heavy. See gutter cleaning.
Do gutter guards actually work?
The right one does. A guard keeps the leaf mat from forming in the channel. It does not make a gutter self-cleaning, and debris still needs brushing off the top occasionally under heavy canopy.
We install several types of guard: mesh, screen, and solid-cover styles. We match the guard to your tree load and gutter size, and because prices vary a lot between types, we recommend one on the site visit and price it there. See gutter guards and guards with live oaks and cedar elms.
My gutter overflows but it is not clogged. Why?
Usually one of three things. It is undersized for the roof area feeding it. It was never pitched enough to drain toward the downspout. Or the downspout is blocked at the top even though the channel looks clear. All three are things we can check in a few minutes on site. See gutter repair.
Can you fix the wood behind the gutter?
We assess it every time, because hanging new gutter on soft fascia means doing the job twice. If it needs work we will tell you at the quote and sort out who does it before we start. See gutter repair.
Do you work on metal roofs?
Yes, and a lot of the Canyon Lake and Spring Branch work is exactly that. Metal sheds water faster than shingle and throws it further off the edge, so gutter size and position both need more thought than they do on a shallow shingle overhang. See gutter installation and gutters in Canyon Lake.
Do you serve San Antonio?
The towns we cover are New Braunfels, Seguin, Schertz, Cibolo, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch, Geronimo and Marion. If you are just outside that, call and ask, and we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you. Start with gutters in New Braunfels.
Are you licensed and insured?
